Check Your Property Assessment May 1st on Your Town's Tentative Roll

April 8, 2025

In most towns the tentative assessment roll is made public on May 1. The tentative roll lists assessment information for every property for the current year. It is the taxpaper's responsibility to check your assessment and exemptions on the tentative roll after it has been filed. Questions about your assessment should be directed to your assessor. After meeting with your assessor, if you are still dissatisfied, you have the right to file for a formal review by your Board of Assessment Review by the filing deadline, Grievance Day. Assessors have until May 1 to value properties using the preceding July 1 market value and the March 1 inventory (property record card).

Visit your town's website and check your town's Tentative Roll to see your current assessment. If you feel it is not accurate, you can prepare to challenge your assessment on Grievance Day, normally the 4th Tuesday in May, or May 27th this year. Check your town's website for the exact date in your area.

The Tentative Roll is important because when you are comparing properties to prove your grievance you must use current 2025 property assessments.
